Iran Must Work Harder to Win Trust

South Korean Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan called on his Iranian counterpart in Seoul on Thursday to increase cooperation with the international community in the hope that Tehran can clarify the nature of its nuclear program.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki arrived in the South Korean capital on Thursday on the last leg of a whirlwind three-nation visit. He earlier traveled to Malaysia and North Korea.

Mottaki responded that Iran only seeks the peaceful applications of the technology, press tv reported.

The United States and its European allies have long pursued a carrot-and-stick policy toward Tehran over its nuclear program, accusing the country of seeking to develop nuclear weaponry.

The UN nuclear watchdog, which has extensively monitored Iran’s nuclear activities since 2003, concedes that it is not in a position to fully clarify the nature of the Iranian nuclear program.

The agency, however, announced in its latest Iran report that its inspectors have not found any ‘components of a nuclear weapon’ or ‘related nuclear physics studies’ in the country.

Tehran continues to cooperate with the agency but says it will not halt its enrichment because it had already voluntary suspended its nuclear activities in the past to build trust.
