Georgia makes concession for Russia to join WTO

Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergi Kapanadze stated that the deployment of international monitors in trade corridors and border-crossing points would secure the transparency of customs administration and enable Russia to become member of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). He stressed that Georgia has made a concession, and that now it was Russia’s turn – the two factors mentioned by Kapanadze are under negotiation with the Russian Federation, while the Swiss proposed the establishment of a state-of-the-art information exchange system.

According to the minister, the proposal will allow trade control through the Gantiadi-Adleri and Roki-Zemo Zaramagi border crossing points. If the proposal is not acceptable to Moscow, it may fail to join the WTO.
