Bulgaria, Turkey agree to make joint committee on Syria refugees

Bulgaria and Turkey have agreed to create a joint border committee to manage the flux of refugees from war torn Syria, said Bulgarian Foreign Affairs Minister Kristian Vigenin Tuesday.

Over the weekend, Vigenin was on an official trip to Turkey, where the topic of refugees was high on the agenda in his talks with counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu.

“The joint Bulgarian-Turkish border committee is being prepared and its first sitting will be called in the closest future,” said the Bulgarian top diplomat.

“Turkey does not encourage the flow of illegal migrants to Bulgaria, and if our neighbors indirectly facilitated the process, it was due to the fact that their border authorities are now concentrated on their Syria border,” added he.
