Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta on Wednesday expressed Bucharest’s support for a bid by Montenegro to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union (EU).

Romania will entirely endorse the efforts of the Republic of Montenegro to join NATO and the EU, Prime Minister Victor Ponta said on Wednesday, at the end of the meeting at Victoria Palace with his Montenegrin counterpart Milo Djukanovic.

“I want to voice on this occasion Romania’s total support for the efforts Montenegro made for the accession to NATO and the EU,” Ponta told his Montenegrin counterpart Milo Djukanovic at the end of their meeting at Victoria Palace.

“I believe the presence of Montenegro in NATO will represent a new historic step for the stability and peace in the region and the successful completion of the negotiations with the EU, also, a fundamental message to Europe’s future,” the Romanian prime minister added.
