Musharraf’s indictment for treason delayed by Court

Former military ruler Pervez Musharraf appeared at a Pakistani court hearing on treason charges on Tuesday, but the case was delayed after his lawyers challenged the tribunal’s jurisdiction.

The three-member special court in Islamabad had been expected to indict General (retd.) Musharraf, who failed to appear on four separate occasions since the trial began in December.

Justice Faisal Arab adjourned the hearing until Friday after his lawyers said he could be tried only in a military court, according to Pakistan’s Constitution.

The court would decide on the objection raised by Gen. Musharraf’s lawyers at the next hearing on Friday, justice Arab announced.
