6 militants killed in N. Pakistan during military operation

At least six suspected militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Detta Khael area of North Waziristan tribal region of Pakistan bordering Afghanistan on Tuesday, said military.

A statement by media wing of Pakistan military, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said, “The encounter took place this afternoon during clearance of the operation in the area ahead of Dattakhel.” It further said, “A civilian logistic staff member was also killed in the same encounter when he was providing supplies to fighting forces.” Pakistan Army launched a comprehensive military operation ‘Zarb-i-Azb’ on June 15 following a brazen militant attack on Karachi’s international airport and failure of peace talks between the government and Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Dattakhel is considered a stronghold for local and foreign militants and a clearance operation is under way in the area.

Earlier on Monday, at least ten suspected militants were killed as military aviation gunship helicopters carried out targeted air strikes on a compound in North Waziristan. Over 1000 militants including foreigners have been killed and around a million people have been displaced in the operation so far
