UN, Algeria express commitment for solving Libyan conflict

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), which leads the mediation of inter-Libyan dialogue, has been active through the announcement of several meetings between the opposing parties, in addition to a meeting next week in Algeria to reach a political consensus meant to resolve the Libyan crisis.
UNSMIL, which committed since September to bring the warring parties around a table of dialogue, announced Tuesday that a meeting of representatives of Libyan political leaders and activists will be held next week in Algeria as part of the dialogue process in Libya.
Minister for Maghreb and African Affairs Abdelkader Messahel said Wednesday the meeting is “extremely important”.
“The fact that all Libyan parties agree to dialogue is an extremely important step,” he said, adding that the meeting will bring together “all political leaders and leaders of recognized political parties in Libya.”
Algeria, he noted, had “contacts with all the Libyan parties and received many Libyan actors without distinction, except terrorist groups recognized as such by the United Nations.”
