Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu has stated that his nation has no intentions of seizing any other lands, neither is it interested in going to war without a reason, adding that the parliament has sanctioned action in the event of threats to its borders.

His comments came in response to a question whether Turkey intends to send troops into northern Syria by an interviewer on a local TV station.

As Turkey did in the past in northern Iraq, against PKK Kurdish rebels, he said the parliament has sanctioned a move in Syria in the event Turkish borders are compromised.

Turkey had been preparing to launch a ground offensive on ISIL in the Iraqi city of Mosul, said the minister, after Turkish consulate employees had been abducted there, had it not been for the diplomats’ later release.

Turkey is surrounded by a “ring of fire,” he added, mentioning that this situation is only natural.
