Tunisia will participate in the 3rd meeting of the High Level Committee of the African Union (AU) on the Libyan crisis, scheduled for Saturday, September 9, in Congo-Brazzaville.

Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui will head the Tunisian delegation to the meeting as representative of President Béji Caïd Essebsi.

According to a statement from the Foreign Affairs Department, the meeting in Brazzaville will discuss a political solution in Libya with the participation of the main Libyan antagonists.

It will be the opportunity to reaffirm the constant position of Tunisia alongside the Libyan people; a position contained in the Head of State’s initiative for a comprehensive solution in Libya and in the Tunis Declaration signed by Tunisian, Algerian and Egyptian Foreign Ministers on February 20 in Tunisia.

Tunisia insists on the primordial role of the United Nations in the supervision of the peaceful political process in Libya and the role of the main countries bordering on Libya, namely Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt, in accompanying the dialogue between the different Libyan parties, adds the same source.

On the margins of these meetings, the Minister of Foreign Affairs will have meetings with many of his Arab and African counterparts on bilateral relations and regional and international issues of mutual interest.
