Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika on Wednesday urged Arab countries to combine their efforts to eradicate terrorism amid critical circumstances that the region is going through.

“The challenges are obvious, and Arab security cooperation must be strengthened,” he said in a message at the opening ceremony of the 35th Arab Interior Ministers Council (AIMC) in Algiers, read on his behalf by Minister of Interior Noureddine Bedoui.

He said that large areas of the Arab world are going through very critical circumstances while suffering from “security instability” poised by terrorist and extremist groups.

He warned that “the situation with all its sensitivity and contradictions requires constant vigilance, cooperation and coordination at the highest levels.”

“The first step to eradicate terrorism consists in invalidating its intellectual references and depriving it of its social environment and its communication and information networks through intensive efforts at the educational, cultural, information and religious orientation levels so that to neutralize extremism and save our youth from its fatal mystification,” President Bouteflika noted.
