DR Congo: ethnic violence make at least 15 dead in North Kivu

imgFifteen people at least were killed on Sunday in clashes between various armed groups in North Kivu, eastern DR Congo, the scene of sharp ethnic tension in recent weeks, have we learned Monday from local authorities .
“There were clashes in the village of Mukeberwa in the province of North Kivu, according to my information, between 15 and 30 people have died,” Joy Bokele said, director of Lubero territory where were fighting.
Bokele Joy added that it was difficult to provide a more precise assessment because the clashes took place in an area where there are no FARDC (Congolese army) or national police.
Nande Mai Mai against FDLR
He said the fighting was provoked by the attack on Mai Mai militia against Nande village Mukeberwa held by Rwandan Hutu rebels of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR). Mukeberwa is located on the borders of the territories of Lubero and Walikale in the east-central North Kivu, a province torn for over twenty years by armed conflict.
