UN condemns attack of MINUSMA camp

UN Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the attack against the camp of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) in Timbuktu, Mali.
The attack which caused the death of a Liberian peacekeeper and injured others and which was claimed by Jama’at Nusrat Al-Islam Wal-Muslimeen (Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims).
In a press statement issued Thursday evening, the members of the Security Council expressed their deepest condolences and sympathy to the family of the victim, as well as to the Government of
Liberia and to MINUSMA. They paid tribute to the peacekeepers who risk their lives.
The 15-member body called on the Government of Mali to swiftly investigate these attacks and bring the perpetrators to justice, and they underlined that attacks targeting peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law.
The UNSC reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.
