Assad, Talabani Tehran Visit not Related to Iraq Issue

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an open session of the parliament here on Tuesday, Jalali said that the next week visits to Tehran by Iraqi President Jalal Talabani and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad “are preplanned” and that Washington’s request from Baghdad to negotiate the country’s issues and affairs with its two eastern and western neighbors does not set an agenda for the meeting.

Meantime, he described exchange of views to find a solution to Iraqi issues as an urgent move, specially considering that the US failed in restoring security and calm in that country.

He viewed the upcoming trilateral talks between Iran, Syria and Iraq as a meeting with landmark results for the Iraqi people, reiterating that both Iran and Syria attach special significance to the establishment of stability and security in Iraq, because Iraq’s stability is interwoven with the interests of Iran and Syria.
