High Turnout in Elections a Decisive Response to US

Speaking in an open session of the parliament here on Tuesday, Haddad Adel praised the nation for its massive turnout in the elections of the Experts Assembly and municipal councils as well as parliament’s by-elections, and said that the wide public participation in the elections once again proved the nation’s loyalty to the ruling system and the Islamic Revolution, while it also displayed people’s confidence in the Islamic Republic.

He further said that the high turnout of the public faced the enemies with failure, and continued, “The Iranian people gave a proper response to the request by the US officials, specially president Bush, for boycotting the elections in Iran.”

The chief legislative official also stated that the public’s massive participation in the elections proved that the recent statement released by the US State Department about lack of democracy in Iran is not true.

“Through their massive turnout in the elections, people themselves proved there exists democracy in Iran” he stressed.

Haddad Adel said the Muslim and Middle-Eastern nations are now facing two types of democracies, adding, “One is what the Americans allege to be democracy, which has been introduced to the region through bloodshed, violence, murder, aircrafts, bombers, shells, tanks and militarism, while the other one is the democracy that Iran has presented, which is a logical display of the public’s vigilant moves and is truly ethical, bears human values and has a peaceful course.”

“And it is a taken-for-granted fact that all Islamic nations will pick up the Iranian model, and not the American one, for the future of their countries,” the lawmaker concluded.
