FM Hopes for Increased FAO Cooperation with Developing Countries

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki here in Tehran on Sunday met with the new envoy of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to Tehran Shahid Najm.A statement released by the Foreign Ministry’s Information and Press Bureau said that during the meeting, the Iranian minister expressed the hope that Najm could open a new chapter in FAO-Iran close cooperation during his mission.

Noting the vital role of the agricultural sector as a major supplier of food for around 6 billion people in the world, he stressed the need for the utilization of the latest human, scientific and technological achievements in the area of agriculture, and hoped that the UN body could maintain maximum cooperation with the developing countries and provide them with the best facilities in this regard.

For his part, FAO’s new envoy to Tehran Shahid Najm submitted his credentials to Mottaki, and expressed hope that his performance in Tehran would turn into a milestone in the expansion of FAO-Iran ties, in the agricultural sector in particular.
