Iran Underlines Betterment of Human Rights Int’l Mechanisms

A03143098.jpgIranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki called for the improvement of the international mechanisms for protecting human rights, including the Universal Declaration of Human Right, stressing that the weak points existing in such mechanisms should be removed. Addressing the opening ceremony of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) ministerial meeting on Human Rights and Cultural Diversity here in Tehran on Monday, the Iranian foreign minister said that the United Nations human rights mechanisms are presently misused for targeting independent countries.

Mottaki said double standards in dealing with human rights issues have inflicted a great damage on human rights cause and ideals, reminding that extensive and institutionalized violation of human rights is ignored in certain parts of the world while the issue of human rights is misused to impose political pressures on a certain group of countries.
