Quake Hits Northeastern Iran

A009056839.jpgAn earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale jolted the town of Esfarayen in Iran’s northeastern province of Northern Khorassan on Friday. The seismological base of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University registered the quake at 20:19:19 hours local time (16:49:19 GMT).

The epicenter of the quake was located in an area measuring 57.42 degrees in longitude and 37.36 degrees in latitude.

No reports have yet been received on the possible number of casualties or damage to properties by the quake.

The quake was reported to be the third in Northern Korassan province in the last two weeks.
