Iran Blasts US Resistance to Dismantlement of Chemical Weapons

A02539504.jpgThe US refrains from decreasing and dismantling its chemical weapons despite international calls, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said. Mottaki called on the mass media and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to disclose information and secrets of the United States’ chemical weapons.

“We should very transparently and clearly inform the world public opinion about the US administration’s non-compliance in this regard,” he said, adding, “And the world states should also voice their protest against this action of the US at international conferences.”

The minister said Iran has proposed that a working group be formed to study which countries and companies equipped the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, with chemical weapons during the war against Iran in the 1980s and in order to pave the way for the punishment of such companies.

He further voiced pleasure with the judicial prosecution and trial of one of such companies in the Netherlands, and expressed the hope that other countries would follow suit.
