The Qatari football Association announced that it is hoping to arrange a friendly match with Iran next month. Qatar are in the middle of the first round of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup but see a date with Iran as a valuable test.
“We have suggested November 17 as a date, and Tehran as the venue. We are looking forward to a swift reply from the Iranian football federation,” stated a Qatari FA spokesman.
Qatar manager Jorge Fossati has retained all his international players from their clubs.
The Uruguayan tactician is hoping for a more convincing home tie against Sri Lanka when both sides meet in the second leg in Doha on Sunday. Qatar won the first match 1-0.
“The match was suggested by Mr. Fossati who is looking forward to build up for the upcoming stages of the World Cup qualifiers, said the FA official, who added, “Iran is the first name on the list and we are willing to negotiate extra games if possible.”
