Iran’s Parliament Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad Adel dismissed US sanctions against Iran, saying that the move proves Washington’s isolation in the international community. “If conditions were prepared for an international consensus against Iran, the US would never embark on imposing sanctions against Iran by itself. Hence, the one-sided sanctions imposed by this country against Iran indicate the United States’ isolation,” Haddad Adel told a new briefing here on Wednesday.
He further pointed to the United States’ hostile attitude towards Iran over the past 50 years, saying that the Iranian nation may never give up its rights and independence due to US pressures and threats.
The top legislator also viewed the US sanctions against Tehran as illegal and unjustified, reminding that Washington has embarked on the measure under a baseless and wrong pretext.
The US has announced that it imposed one-sided sanctions against the Islamic Republic as a punitive measure to make Tehran curb its nuclear weapons program. Washington has never presented any corroborative evidence to substantiate its claims about Iran’s nuclear programs and activities. Tehran denies the charges vehemently, saying that the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitles it to the peaceful use of nuclear energy for civilian purposes.
Haddad Adel rejected US allegations about Iran’s nuclear programs, which Washington cites as the raison detre for its sanctions, and reminded that the claims of the US officials have been rejected by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Mohammed ElBaradei.
“Mr. ElBaradei stresses that there exists no indication of Iran’s military (nuclear) activity, but US officials demand ElBaradei, that is the IAEA director general, to keep silent in this regard,” he said.
