TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said Baseeji (volunteer) troops play a decisive role in the country’s asymmetric warfare strategies.
Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari, who is considered as a main theoretician of asymmetric warfare, noted the advantages of his doctrine when defending the country against hi-tech armies, and said, “What makes up for asymmetries in wars against those countries which enjoy technological superiority and hi-tech military tools and equipment is faithful and highly motivated troops.”
“This faith and motivation can resist against the enemies’ superior equipment and make up for a given country’s technological lacks and inferiorities,” the commander said in an interview published here on Monday.
He said all countries, but those who lack revolutionary forces, can undoubtedly make up for electronic, technological and military inferiorities in battles against advanced powers.
“Therefore, Baseej, as a faithful and motivated force, plays a decisive, fundamental and pivotal role in asymmetric battles,” Jafari added.
According to the General, Iran has so far organized an army of 12.5 million Baseejis, comprising 5 million female volunteers, and it aims to increase the number to 20 million as demanded by the Late Founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini in the early years after the revolution.
