TEHRAN (FNA) Iran called on the United Nations Security Council to stop investigations on the nature of its nuclear activities and to allow the UN nuclear body to work and decide on the case, specially now that reports by IAEA and the US intelligence agencies have stressed the peaceful nature of its programs.
“The time has come to end the illegal consideration of Iran’s nuclear issue at the Security Council, and send the case back to a relevant technical forum, specifically the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” said Mohammad Khazaei, Iran’s envoy to the United Nations on Saturday.
If the Security Council declines to close Iran’s nuclear dossier, it will undermine the IAEA’s credibility and further complicated the situation, Khazaei said.
Khazaei noted that recent US intelligence reports confirmed the IAEA’s conclusion that Iran is not developing nuclear weapons and intends its atomic program to be used for energy production only.
Khazaei dismissed remarks by US President George Bush that Iran remains a danger to the world because it seeks atomic development.
