Addressing Iran’s diplomatic corps in Latin America here in Tehran on Thursday, Ahmadinejad viewed Latinos as oppressed nations, and underlined that Iran is not seeking mere economic and material interests in relations with Latin countries.

“Rather we are seeking to provide nations with progress and welfare,” he added.

The president also reiterated that Iran is not after power and hegemony over other nations, and continued, “The theoretical base of our presence in the world arena as well as our foreign policy are based on honesty, friendship and maximizing relations.”

He stressed the necessity for the development of all-out ties with Latin America, and provided Islamic Republic envoys with the required guidelines to further promote ties with the countries of their mission.
