Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa told the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper that Iran is a country which can have either a positive or negative role, a press tv report said.

Al Khalifa’s interview indicated that Bahrain does not follow prescribed US policies which try to isolate Iran, the newspaper commented.

The minister pointed out that Bahrain is geographically closer to Iran than any other Persian Gulf state and enjoys strong ties with the country.

The Bahraini foreign minister is on a six-day official visit to Japan.
