TEHRAN (FNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki here Friday assigned new heads for his European, Asian and Economic affairs departments.
The first change involves Iran’s relations with Europe since, according to a statement released by the Foreign Ministry’s Information and Press Bureau, Mehdi Safari was appointed as deputy foreign minister for European Affairs department.
Safari has already served as deputy foreign minister for Asia and Oceania, special envoy for Caspian Affairs, director general of the ministry’s office for the Commonwealth and the Caucasus Affairs and Iran’s ambassador to Moscow.
The second assignment pertained to Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini, who was appointed as caretaker of the Foreign Ministry’s Department for Asian Affairs while he will remain in his posts as special aide to Mottaki and also Foreign Ministry spokesman.
Hosseini has already served as the director general of the ministry’s assessment office and director of the Middle-Eastern, the Persian Gulf and the Central Asian affairs.
And finally, Mottaki appointed Mohsen Talayee as deputy foreign minister for economic affairs.
Talayee used to be the country’s ambassador to Tokyo and secretary of the foreign ministry’s strategic council.
