Iran Lashes out at EU’s Pro-Zionist Stance

TEHRAN (FNA) – Iran blasted the European Union for its biased standing and sympathy for the Zionist regime, saying that the EU is under the influence of the Zionist lobby.

The EU’s Slovenian presidency had condemned a stream of anti-Israeli comments from Iranian officials since the assassination of a top Hezbollah commander.

“The issuing of such a biased statement by the rotating presidency of the European Union is the result of pressure from the international Zionist lobby,” the Iranian foreign ministry said in a statement.

“It is an effort to divert European public opinion from paying attention to the transparent realities of Iran’s peaceful nuclear program and the clear content of the International Atomic Energy Agency report.”

Iran insists that its nuclear program is peaceful and has hailed the latest UN atomic watchdog report, which vindicated Tehran’s stance, as a major victory.

The foreign ministry warned the Slovenian EU presidency “not to fall into the trap of the Zionist lobby”.

Ahmadinejad’s attack on Israel and a similar statement by Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) chief Mohammad Ali Jafari came after the killing in a car bombing in Damascus on February 12 of Imad Mughniyeh, a top Hezbollah commander.

Meantime, Iranian officials have repeatedly reiterated that the country’s position is in no way anti-Semitic but anti-Zionist, pointing to the continued existence in the Islamic republic of the largest Jewish community in the Middle East outside Israel.
