TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said that his visit to Iraq aims to stage and reiterate Islamic Republic’s solidarity with the Iraqi government and nation.

“The Islamic Republic of iran believes that Iraq’s progress means a progress of Iran and the region,” Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with the Iraqi president in Baghdad on Sunday.

He further viewed Iran-Iraq ties as profound and historical, and said that the two nations’ bonds enjoy such deep roots that even Saddam Hussein’s 30-year-long dictatorial regime could not undermine them.

The Iranian nation is pleased to see that the Iraqi people are moving on the path towards perfection, independence and security under the leadership of its own revolutionaries, politicians and scholars, the president said.

Ahmadinejad also described iraq’s future as lustrous, and underscored, “The great Iraqi nation is capable of overcoming its problems.”

He also praised Iran’s assistance and companionship with the Iraqi nation during the era of hardship, and hoped that Tehran would continue support for his people.

Talabani further perceived good prospects for his country, saying that Iraq is now at the stage of development, seeking dynamic economy, established security and stability.
