TEHRAN (FNA)- A senior Iranian lawmaker dismissed the possibility for the impeachment of Interior Minister Ali Kordan over his Oxford degree.
“I will not speak for everyone, but I do not think that impeachment is on the agenda,” Chairman of the parliament’s Higher Education Commission Ali Abbas-Pour said on Tuesday.
The newly appointed Ali Kordan said in a Saturday letter to President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that he was unaware that his Oxford University degree was invalid.
“Over the past eight years, I never doubted the validity of the degree and that is why I presented it in the course of the confidence vote,” read the letter.
On Tuesday, President Ahmadinejad provided Parliament lawmakers with a copy of Kordan’s letter to ease the controversy surrounding the fake degree.
After reading the letter on the Parliament floor, Abbas-Pour said he had been tasked with investigating Kordan’s degree, press tv reported.
The Parliament leaders must now decide the next move regarding Kordan’s status at the Interior Ministry.
