TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki says US hegemony is teetering on the brink of collapse as new global powers begin to emerge.
“Today, the legacy of US colonialism no longer exists. The main reason behind this phenomenon lies within Washington’s lack of logic and its failure to convince public opinion,” Mottaki said Sunday, in a meeting with a delegation of French deputies.
“It is well evident that NATO forces, led by the US, have failed to bring peace to Afghanistan,” he said, warning European states against following the same policies that brought about extremism to the region.
“Such policies are doomed to failure,” Mottaki said, press tv reported.
Seven years after the US-led invasion of Afghanistan, a leaked draft of the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) says the war-ridden country is in a ‘downward spiral’ into corruption, drugs and insurgency-related violence.
The widespread violence in Afghanistan has raised serious concern in the West to the extent that US Defense Secretary Robert Gates says Washington has no choice but to ‘ultimately’ reconcile with the Taliban as part of a much-needed ‘exit strategy’ for the beleaguered Bush administration.
