MP: Sanctions Lead to Iran’s Progress

Head of Iran’s Parliamentary Commission for National Security and Foreign Policy, Alaeddin Boroujerdi said on Wednesday that the West’s economic pressure and sanctions have failed to halt Iran’s nuclear program and they have rather led to Iran’s scientific and technological progress.

“The economic pressure has made the Iranian nation more committed to moving towards development,” Boroujerdi said in a meeting with British Ambassador to Iran, Jeffrey Adams, on Wednesday.

The Iranian lawmaker urged the permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany to take confidence-building steps towards Iran, press tv reported.

The US and its allies have slapped several rounds of sanctions against Iran to halt its nuclear activities, which the West claim are aimed at developing nuclear arms.

Tehran, however, has dismissed the West’s allegations, arguing that its nuclear program is solely aimed at peaceful purposes.
