Northern Kosovo Town Still Tense

Pristina – Representatives of security and political authorities in the northern town of Mitrovica said on Friday that the atmosphere remains tense after several cars carrying the KS sticker denoting they were from Kosovo were demolished and an Albanian girl attacked.

The head of the municipality, Bajram Rexhepi, said he expected these incidents to remain localised, and said he thought they are linked to the upcoming deployment of the EU’s Rule of Law Mission, EULEX.

“Although Serbia’s government officially recognizes EULEX’s deployment, certain groups in the terrain oppose it,” he said.

Representatives of Nato’s mission in Kosovo said they did not expect any large problems and said that they are ready to handle whatever situation may arise.
