Rafsanjani: Israel Should Be Tried for Crimes against Humanity

TEHRAN (FNA)- Expediency Council Chairman Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani Wednesday said that Israel must stand trial at the International Criminal Court for inhuman crimes against Gazans.

The former President told reporters Israel has committed a “body of crimes against humanity in Gaza” and that the UN crimes tribunal has been negligent and failed to accomplish its duty in this regard.

“Plenty of crimes are occurring against humanity which must be pursued at the International Criminal Court,” the Iranian students news agency quoted Rafsanjani as saying.

He also reiterated his sever criticism of Islamic countries indifference towards Israel’s cruelty against Palestinians and particularly Gazans and said “I believe Islamic countries are committing a really big sin.”

He has already slammed “blind conscience” of the world and complained over powerful countries and certain Islamic states support for Israel.

In a Tuesday speech for Feast of Sacrifice or Eid al-Adha prayer he noted “I don’t know how Egyptians with long records in civilization and Islam could tolerate closing their borders to Gazans.”

Gaza is the most oppressed region and Gazans are the most oppressed people across the world, he added.

Gaza Strip is under Israel’s blockade which prevents shipments of food, medicine, fuel and banknotes to reach the troubled people of the region. Egypt has also closed the Rafah border crossing with Gaza deteriorating the condition.
