acedonian presidential candidate Georgi Ivanov, who is backed by the conservative VMRO DPMNE, is leading with 27 percent support over opposition favorite Ljubomir Frckoski who has 13 percent, the latest opinion poll done by local agency “Rating” shows.
Third on the list is Imer Selmani, the leader of the newly formed ethnic Albanian party New Democracy with 9 percent of support. Some 23 percent of the voters have not decided yet whom to endorse, the poll shows.
In case there is a second round between the VMRO and Social Democrats’ candidates, 36 percent of the voters would vote for Ivanov and 21 for Frckoski, “Rating” said.
The poll done on representative sample of over 1,200 people shows that a large part of the votes for the two main contestants, both officially non-party members, would come from the parties that backed them.
The campaign for the March 22 election will officially kick in at the beginning of the month.
