Bosnian Border Police have made two new arrests as a part of one of the biggest cross-border operations against organised crime and human trafficking gangs.
Two men were arrested on Tuesday in the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo and will be transferred to the Office of the state Public Prosecutor, said a press statement.
Both men are accused of participating in organised crime and the trafficking of illegal immigrants from Eastern Europe and the Balkans, to the countries of the European Union, the statement said, adding that both arrests are a part of operation “Tara”.
Operation “Tara” is one of the biggest ever coordinated police operations, linking the police and judiciary of Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Slovenia.
Earlier last week, Croatian police apprehended 38 people and are holding 29 of them in detention. The latest arrests bring the total number of people detained in the operation close to 100, police officials in the region said.
“Dozens” of suspects have so far been arrested in Bosnia, at least 50 in Croatia, 5 in Austria and more than 10 in Slovenia, media reported.
