Seven Kosovo Officials Dismissed for Corruption

resizer31Kosovo’s prime minister has suspended seven officials the day after the publication of a damning report on corruption.

A report by Kosovo’s anti-corruption agency revealed on Monday that 113 officials are suspected of corruption.

According to the investigation for 2008, employees of the government and the courts head the list of suspects.

The 40-page document reveals the situation in the public sector has not improved. Prime Minister Hashim Thaci promised his government would not tolerate corruption.

Kosovo’s premier added he was willing to continue the fight against corruption and encouraged the media to investigate and report on the problem.

“The anti-corruption agency will always have my support,” said Thaci.

The agency also expressed concern at politicians’ reluctance to declare their financial assets, despite repeated warnings.

Hasan Preteni, the agency’s head, said many senior officials do not declare their financial wealth.
