On Wednesday, Slovenia and Serbia signed a bilateral agreement in the field of defence. The agreement defines their cooperation up until now in that field, and it enables the implementation of more interesting projects this year, said the Slovenian Minister of Defence Ljubica Jelusic at a joint press conference with the Serbian Minister of Defence Dragan Sutanovac.
Sutanovac said that the agreement and his visit to Ljubljana, during which he was hosted by the Slovenian premier Borut Pahor, will be the basis for the development of relations between the two countries. He also thanked Slovenia for their help in bringing Serbia closer to the European Union.
When asked about the international mission in Kosovo, and cooperation with NATO, Sutanovac explained that Serbia is implementing NATO standards and the necessary reforms to its army, and that they are interested in the Partnership for Peace, but that they are not thinking about membership.
“In 2007 the parliament brought a decision on Serbia’s military neutrality, and we make our politics according to that. The topic of NATO is still not up for discussion in Serbia, only the Partnership for Peace. Membership itself is at another level, and we are not thinking about that” said Sutanovac.
