Slovenia confirms plan for Referendum on Border Arbitration Agreement

The cabinet confirmed on Thursday a coalition-sponsored motion to put the border arbitration agreement with Croatia to a referendum.

Foreign Minister Samuel Zbogar said at the press conference that now it is the right time to seek an opinion of the citizens on Border Arbitration Agreement, held prior to ratification in the National Assembly.

“The government agrees to hold a referendum on the new arbitration agreement. We believe the agreement is in line with the law and the democratic tradition. Although that will be a consultative referendum, the government agrees to respect and take into consideration the outcome”.
