Rohan: “Kosovo UN membership is in Serbia’s hands”

The former UN Deputy Special Envoy for Kosovo, Ambassador Albert Rohan believes that Pristina’s future is in the European family, and warns that there might be some difficulties regarding UN membership.

“Kosovo will become UN member, when Serbia recognizes Kosovo independence and gives up its resistance to its UN membership”, Rohan said.

Rohan explained that his position on the issue was based on Russia’s stance “to always support Serbia”.

“Russia can veto Kosovo’s UN membership, and this will go on until Serbia gives up,” concluded the Austrian diplomat, after his meeting with Kosovo’s President Fatmir Sejdiu.

President Sejdiu awarded the Golden Medal of Independence to Ambassador Rohan on Tuesday.
