Macedonian FM: Skopje-Tirana cooperation important to region

The cooperation between Macedonia and Albania is highly significant to the stability in the region and to overall development of the Balkans, a senior Macedonian official said on Monday.

Macedonian Foreign Minister Antonio Milososki made the remarks at a joint press conference with his Albanian counterpart Ilir Meta.

“We have shown ability to export stability into other countries across the world, such as mission in Afghanistan,” Milososki said.

He stressed that Macedonia will continue to support Albania to meet the EU criteria for visa liberalization, and EU membership.

Milososki underscored that Macedonia pledges for a multiethnic and multi-confessional society through full compliance with the international guidelines.

“I am pleased that the citizens will be entitled to declaring their ethnic and religious affiliation in the upcoming census in Albania.

The two ministers also discussed modalities on furthering the economic ties between Macedonia and Albania. The two signed protocols on cooperation between the two countries’ ministries of foreign affairs.
