Serbia’s bid to become EU candidate will not be on the agenda of the February meeting of the union

The application is currently with the European Council, until the ministers ask the European Commission to produce its opinion.

The decision to send it to the commission usually takes several months. Serbia officially applied to be granted candidate status last December.

Optimists say that in Serbia’s case this could happen “some time in the spring”, while others assume that it would happen in June, after Chief Hague Prosecutor Serge Brammertz files his new report.
