Serbia to become EU candidate-country in 2011

A realistic date for Serbia to acquire a status of EU candidate-country is June 2011, Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration Bozidar Djelic said.

In an interview with Novosti daily, Djelic said the EU members have not yet reached a consensus on processing Serbia’s candidacy to the European Commission.

The ratification of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) is set to begin in June and it is unlikely that Spanish EU presidency puts Serbia’s EU membership bid on the agenda of the Council of Ministers.
