Serbia reiterates opposition against Kosovo

Serbian President Boris Tadic reiterated on Saturday that Serbia is ready for a compromise on Kosovo, but he stressed that Belgrade will never recognise its independence. “Nobody should force us to make that choice,” he said, adding that EU membership remains a priority for the country. Tadic called for unity ahead of the International Court of Justice’s opinion on the legality of Kosovo’s independence due on Thursday (July 22nd). Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic said Friday that that a lasting solution to the issue could be reached through dialogue. “Serbia will address issues related to Kosovo with peaceful and diplomatic means. I’m convinced that we should, in the interest of peace and stability, find a sustainable solution,” he said.
