Georgia’s parliament today opened a meeting of the Council of Europe’s Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights.
Russian representatives are not attending the meeting after Tbilisi refused to grant them entry visas. The reason given repeated violations by Russia of the Georgian law on occupation by foreign powers in its territory.
The event was opened by Georgia’s Deputy Chairman of Parliament, Mikheil Machavariani. Participants discussed urgent issues related to the protection of human rights.
The meeting will end Friday.
The Human Rights Committee’s representatives will then visit Sighnaghi to see the Bodbe monastery, Signagi museum, the Marani wine cellar, and other sights, before leaving Georgia later Friday.
