Greece wants to build a wall along Turkish border to stop illegal immigration

The Greek government is contemplating the construction of a 206-km-long wall that will stretch along the entire land-border with Turkey, in an attempt to stop illegal immigration.

“Greek society has reached its limits in taking in illegal immigrants … We are absolutely determined on this issue. Additionally, we want to provide a decisive blow to migrant smuggling rings that trade in people and their hopes for a better life,” Greek junior minister for citizen protection, Christos Papoutsis, and a former EU commissioner for energy said on December 31 2010.
