A solution to the trade embargo that catalysed three weeks of tension on Kosovo’s northern border earlier this month is achievable, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said.
In the first visit to Serbia by a German Chancellor in eight years, Merkel met with Serbian president Boris Tadic behind closed doors in the Palace of Serbia this morning.
In a joint press conference following the meeting, the Chancellor spoke candidly about her views of Serbia and reiterated that the country is on the path towards European Union accession.
“I know that problems cannot be solved overnight, but I believe that the problems such as trade, can be resolved,” the Chancellor told reporters, referring to a decision by the Kosovo Government to stop importing goods from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina on 25 July.
