EP President backs Serbia EU candidacy

Serbia deserves to obtain the status of EU member state candidate and it should make more efforts to convince the EU countries of that, said European Parliament (EP) President Martin Schulz said.

“I am convinced that most of the MEPs will back the launching of the negotiations with Serbia,” Schulz remarked.

He explained that the decision of the European Council should be taken unanimously and at the moment it was not clear whether all European leaders would back giving Serbia the status of a EU member state candidate.
