Turkey shuts down embassy in Damascus, Syria

Turkey has shut down its embassy in Damascus, Syria, because of the worsening security situation.

Turkey warned its citizens in Syria last week about the plan and urged them to return home.

About 17,000 Syrian refugees have poured across the border into Turkey to escape the fighting.

Turkey will hold a “Friends of Syria” meeting next week and during this, The United States is expected to raise the issue of sending what it calls non-lethal aid to the Syrian rebels.
