Turkey could invoke NATO’s article 5 to protect border with Syria

Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday Turkey could invoke NATO’s article 5 to protect its border with Syria.

The article 5 states that an attack on a member constitutes an attack on all members.

“NATO has a responsibility to protect Turkish borders,” Erdogan said during a visit to China.

His remarks came after recently fired shots from Syrian territory into Turkey, which wounded four Syrians and two Turks near a refugee camp.
