Nasa Stranka has proposed Jewish leader Jakov Finci as its candidate for the post of mayor of Sarajevo.Nasa Stranka [Our Party] on November 15 said it had proposed Jakov Finci as its candidate for the postion of mayor of the Bosnian capital.
The party said it had proposed Finci as a result of his professional and moral integrity and commitment to the development and preservation of the values and the spirit of Sarajevo, most of whose population is Muslim.
Nasa Stranka is yet to assure support for Finci’s candidacy, having talked to most other parties with seats on the Sarajevo City Council.
“He is a man with moral integrity, professionalism, and commitment to the idea of a multicultural and multi-confessional Sarajevo,” Nasa Stranka leader Dennis Gratz told the local media. “That all makes him an ideal candidate for the post.”
Nasa Stranka said it will talk further to all parties to seek support for Finci before December 13, when the City Council is to be formed.
Finci is one of the plaintiffs in the Sejdic and Finci case on which the European Court For Human Rights issued a landmark ruling in 2009.
The ruling told Bosnia to change its constitution in order to allow ethnic minorities run for top governing posts that are currently reserved for the three largest ethnic groups, Bosniaks, Serbs and Croats.
