Serbian Red Star Chief Quits Following Tussle

After chairing Serbia’s prestigious Red Star football club for only a month, Dragan Dzajic, a football legend, resigned on Wednesday following a physical altercation with Nebojsa Covic, the club’s vice-president.

It is not clear exactly why the incident occurred, but media reports said that Miodrag Zecevic, the club’s secretary, had earlier uttered indecent words to Covic, after which Covic came to the club to find Zecevic, who is Dzajic’s brother-in-law. He then got into a fight with Dzajic instead.

After Covic and Dzajic had exchanged insults, they became locked physical combat, the media reported.

After the conflict they both left. In the meantime, police came to investigate the incident.

The two leading officials of the Red Star have been in conflict for some time because of their sharply different views on the problems facing the club.The president of Serbia’s troubled football club, Red Star, has announced he is resigning after only a month in the post, following a reported punch-up with the club’s vice-president.
